20,000 Gatundu North youths to benefit from biogas project, says MP Kururia

At least 20,000 youths in Gatundu North, Kiambu County, are set to benefit from a biogas production initiative spearheaded by their area MP, Njoroge Kururia.

Speaking in Mukurwe during a meeting with youth and women groups, Kururia highlighted the area’s strong agricultural base, particularly dairy and livestock farming, as key resources that will drive the project.

The legislator said he is already engaging the Ministry of Agriculture to support farmers with the installation of gas production chambers. According to Kururia, the project will not only provide clean energy but also help steer young people away from alcoholism and anti-social behaviour.

He urged the youth to embrace financial discipline, encouraging them to adopt a saving culture instead of spending their income on alcohol and non-essential luxuries.

Biogas technician Julius Gitau, who led the youth delegation, appealed for further government support, especially in helping farmers acquire more livestock to sustain production.

Gitau added that biogas comes with multiple benefits, including clean cooking and lighting, organic manure for farms, and a reduction of flies and other insects around homesteads.
