The government has stepped up support for vulnerable children, rolling out monthly cash transfers and Presidential Bursaries to ensure they remain in school.
State Department for Children Services Principal Secretary CPA Carren Ongeng’o said Sh5 million is disbursed monthly to over 2,700 orphans and vulnerable children, cushioning them against economic hardship as schools reopen in January.
Speaking during a dialogue forum with professionals in Kisumu West Sub-county, Ongeng’o urged parents and guardians to apply for bursaries early to prevent dropouts. She highlighted social protection efforts, health coverage improvements under the Social Health Authority, youth empowerment initiatives, environmental conservation projects, and upcoming ICT hubs to strengthen community development.
The PS also appealed for professional support to widows and vulnerable groups, emphasizing stable families as key to child protection.
