Kiambu County residents are encouraged to actively participate in public engagement forums. These forums play a crucial role in enhancing democratic governance, promoting transparency, ensuring accountability, and fostering community engagement.
Salome Wainaina, the County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Housing, Physical Planning, Municipal Administration, and Urban Development, emphasized that participating residents’ voices will be heard, and their development needs prioritized.
During a consultative forum in Kikuyu town, Ms. Wainaina highlighted that public engagement is a constitutional right for every Kenyan. The ongoing consultation forums, scheduled throughout this week, provide a platform for stakeholders and the public to express opinions, discuss critical issues, and propose innovative solutions.
The municipal plans for FY 2024/2025 are being prepared through wide consultation with residents, stakeholders, and interested parties. These plans cover various aspects of municipal development, including infrastructure, social services, environmental sustainability, and economic growth. The comprehensive framework aims to address the needs and priorities of the twelve municipalities, outlining goals, initiatives, and strategies.
This planning process is part of the second phase of the Kenya Urban Support Programme, funded by the Kenyan government, the International Development Association, and the French Development Agency.
Acting Chief Officer Martin Kangiri stressed the importance of public engagement to align government projects with the public’s needs.
Residents are urged to actively participate in the ongoing forums, which have already covered Thika, Githurai, and Kikuyu. Today’s forums will be held in Juja, Ruiru, and Kiambu, followed by Karuri, Kabete, and Limuru on Thursday. The series concludes with Gatundu, Lari, and Githunguri on Friday, June 28.
