Governor Kimani Wamatangi has officially opened the doors to the modernized Makongeni Bus Park in Kamenu Ward, Thika. This impressive 10,000-square-meter facility will serve as a central hub for commuters traveling to and from Kitui, Matuu, and Thika town.
“We’re excited to bring this new bus park online,” Governor Wamatangi said at the opening ceremony. “As of now, 72 active matatu, bus, and tuktuk Saccos will be operating from the bus park, providing a safe and convenient space for both passengers and operators.”
The Makongeni Bus Park boasts a range of upgrades designed to improve the overall experience:
Solar-Powered Floodlights: Enhanced safety and energy efficiency are ensured with the park’s upgraded lighting system featuring solar-powered floodlights.
Public Toilets: A new public toilet facility has been constructed to meet the needs of passengers and visitors.
The opening of Makongeni Bus Park marks a significant step towards the county’s broader initiative to modernize public transport infrastructure.
Similar upgrades are planned for other bus parks across Kiambu County, including Kwa-Maiko in Ngewa, O.J. in Ruiru, Githurai, and Githunguri Town.
