Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has sharply criticised comparisons between Kenya and Singapore, arguing that the two countries differ fundamentally in size, structure and economic foundations.
Speaking during a reflection at AIPCA Kiratina Church in Komothai, Githunguri Constituency, the senator said attempts to benchmark Kenya against the city-state ignore the country’s vast geography, population and agricultural strength.
Wa Thang’wa noted that while Singapore relies on limited land and niche farming, Kenya’s economy is anchored on diverse agricultural produce including tea, coffee, maize, horticulture and fresh flowers.
He warned against adopting development models that overlook Kenya’s unique strengths, saying leadership should rise to match the nation’s scale rather than shrink national ambition to suit individual capacity.
