Gladys Wanga dismisses Sifuna expulsion rumours

ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga has dismissed claims that the party plans to expel Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna following his absence from a recent Central Committee meeting, stressing that ODM respects internal democracy and diverse opinions among its members.

Speaking during an interview, Wanga clarified that differing views within the party do not amount to misconduct and that discipline only applies after a collective, binding decision has been reached.

She questioned the basis of calls to remove Sifuna, asking what wrongdoing would justify expulsion. “Anyone in the party is allowed to have their own opinion. We are not chasing anyone away. What has Sifuna done wrong?” she said.

Wanga also addressed absenteeism at the meeting, explaining that Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi had requested leave due to official Senate duties in South Africa. Meanwhile, Sifuna had formally apologised after missing his flight, which prevented him from attending the meeting.

The ODM Chairperson added that the meeting was not disrupted, noting that quorum was met and proceedings continued normally despite the duo’s absence.

Wanga reiterated that ODM is committed to fostering dialogue and inclusive decision-making within the party. Her remarks come amid speculation and social media chatter suggesting that internal disagreements could lead to disciplinary action, which she firmly rejected.

By allowing open discussion while maintaining party structure, Wanga said ODM continues to uphold principles of fairness and democracy, balancing leadership directives with the voices of individual members.
