The Postal Corporation of Kenya has opened 79,000 square feet of office space for lease across 13 branches, including 782 square feet in Kiambu County. This strategic move aims to generate revenue by utilizing idle assets and improving the organization’s financial position.

Key Details:

  1. Branch Offices: Available space is identified in 13 branches across several counties, including Nairobi, Kiambu, Kwale, Mombasa, Tana River, Lamu, and Machakos.
  2. Lease Duration: Lease agreements will last for 63 months, with the possibility of extension if both parties agree.
  3. Largest Available Space: The Mokowe post office in Lamu County offers the largest space for lease, spanning 35,000 square feet.
  4. Other Notable Spaces:
    • Kwale Post Office: 24,000 square feet
    • Hola Post Office: 10,000 square feet
    • Machakos Post Office: 2,637 square feet
    • Kiambu: 782 square feet
    • Nairobi City Square: 400 square feet

Posta’s decision to lease office space follows an increase in annual subscription rates for its MPost virtual address service. This initiative aims to address high operational costs and enhance revenue streams. MPost allows customers to acquire a virtual postal address, renew subscriptions, and request item deliveries from the post office. The service is available in Kenya, Rwanda, and Burundi, with plans for further expansion.

In addition to leasing office space, Posta has previously declared senior management positions redundant to reduce costs. The company continues to adapt to the changing landscape of digital communications and competition. By leveraging its existing infrastructure, Posta aims to optimize its assets and contribute to its financial sustainability.
