Linda Mwananchi convoy attacked en route to Kakamega rally

A truck linked to the Linda Mwananchi faction of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) was attacked while travelling to Kakamega County for a rally scheduled for Saturday, February 21.

The vehicle, part of a convoy that included prominent leaders such as Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, was stoned at the Kona Mbaya trading centre on Friday morning. CCTV and video footage shared by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna show the driver narrowly avoiding the rocks, while passengers ducked to safety. No casualties have been reported.

Senator Sifuna condemned the attack, insisting that the faction would continue to Kakamega as planned. He stated that the rally had been formally notified to the Kakamega OCPD and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen via WhatsApp and other official channels, countering previous claims of unawareness.

The incident comes a day after a warning by Sifuna against disruption, referencing the fatal chaos at the Kitengela rally, which left two dead and dozens injured. CS Murkomen had previously blamed the opposition for holding events on market days and allegedly bringing in external groups to stir trouble.

Despite the attack, ODM leaders affirmed their commitment to hold the Kakamega rally, signalling determination to continue political activities amid rising tensions ahead of upcoming elections.
