Emurua Dikirr MP Johana Ng’eno will be laid to rest on Friday, March 6, following his death in a helicopter crash in Mosop Constituency, Nandi County.
The family confirmed the burial date after consultations with leaders and relatives in the wake of the February 28 tragedy in Chepkiep, which claimed six lives.
According to the programme released by the family, a requiem mass will be held on Wednesday, March 4, at the Nairobi Baptist Church. The service is expected to draw leaders, friends and constituents who will gather in the capital to pay their last respects to the late legislator.
A night vigil will follow on Thursday, March 5, in line with Kipsigis cultural traditions. The vigil forms part of customary rites observed for the late MP and others who perished in the crash.
Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu, who is also Ng’eno’s father-in-law, said the bodies of the MP and protocol officer Wycliffe Kiprotich Rono will spend the night at his home. He noted that the two were married under Kipsigis customary rites, making the arrangement consistent with tradition.
Governor Ntutu added that the remaining four victims of the crash will also be brought to Ng’eno’s home in accordance with family wishes and Kipsigis customs, as they were unmarried at the time of their deaths.
On Friday, March 6, a joint burial service will be held at Emurua Dikirr Primary School, where thousands of mourners are expected to attend. Leaders from across the political divide, residents and supporters are anticipated to converge for the final send-off.
After the joint service, the bodies will be transported to their respective homes for separate burial ceremonies later the same day.
The late MP’s death has sent shockwaves across Narok and neighbouring counties, with tributes continuing to pour in from colleagues and constituents who described him as a vocal and dedicated representative.
As preparations intensify, the family has called for unity and respect during the mourning period, urging supporters to honour the memory of the fallen legislator in a dignified manner.
The Friday burial is expected to mark a sombre moment for the region as residents bid farewell to a leader whose life was cut short in the tragic Mosop crash.
