Police in Ruiru are investigating the tragic death of a 15-year-old student who was electrocuted while near a water pump.
The incident occurred after a neighbor connected an electric power supply to pump water for irrigation from River Mukuyu to his land.
According to police reports, the neighbor had linked the electric supply to the boy’s house to power the water pump.
After completing the connection, the neighbor left to feed his goats when he suddenly heard a scream from the riverside. He quickly switched off the power supply, only to find the boy lying on his back with his legs in the river, next to the pump.
The boy was rushed to Ruiru Subcounty Hospital, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police officers, along with Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) personnel, visited the scene, documented the incident, and launched an investigation into the cause of the electrocution.
The body of the deceased was later transferred to Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral, and Research Hospital.
