DP Rigathi Gachagua Meets Kiambu MCAs at Karen Residence

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua met Kiambu Members of County Assembly (MCAs) at his Karen residence in Nairobi on Saturday, September 21, 2024. The County Assembly, led by Speaker Charles Thiong’o, updated him on the progress of the Alcoholic Drinks Control Bill, 2024, which they recently passed.

Gachagua highlighted the bill’s importance, saying it will create a strong legal foundation to combat illicit alcohol in Kiambu County. “This law will provide a legal pillar in our fight against illicit brews in Kiambu County as we work towards sobering our nation for development. Congratulations to the County Assembly on this milestone,” he said.

The Deputy President has been leading the fight against illicit alcohol and drug abuse, with strict measures adopted in March 2024. He reiterated his commitment to reducing the manufacture, distribution, sale, and consumption of illegal brews. According to him, the 25 directives announced on March 6, 2024, have been effective in curbing the issue. He noted that fresh vetting of alcohol manufacturers has led to significant gains.

“This is a huge win for this administration at zero cost,” Gachagua said. “This war is good for the country, and we cannot relent.” He praised the results, citing the reintegration of families and the reformation of addicted youth. “Families broken by alcoholism are now reuniting, and affected youths are reforming. Young people are marrying and starting families again.”

Gachagua commended the administration officers in Kiambu and Murang’a counties for their efforts in fighting alcohol abuse. He stressed that without the government’s intervention, the region’s population could have been at risk. He urged the MCAs and the community to continue the fight, ensuring that these efforts lead to a sober, thriving nation.
