Ruiru Boda Boda Association Holds Annual Prayer and Thanksgiving Day

In a heartfelt display of unity and remembrance, boda boda riders in Ruiru town converged at the Ruiru stadium for their annual prayer and thanksgiving event. The gathering honored the lives of fallen riders in the county and offered support to their bereaved families.

Lawrence Kariuki, Chairperson of the Bodaboda Association of Kiambu, emphasized the significance of the event as a means to express gratitude for the riders’ service and to commemorate those who lost their lives while on duty. He acknowledged the challenges faced by riders in the line of work and reiterated the association’s commitment to providing support during difficult times.

“We want people to participate as it is a community event,” Kariuki stated. “It is important to join together and celebrate as we are one community looking to support one another.”

One of the primary objectives of the event was to assist the families of deceased riders through the provision of essential household goods. The association maintains a digital registry to facilitate the identification of those who have lost their lives.

Kariuki highlighted the demographic profile of the Ruiru boda boda community, noting that the majority are young men with young families. He emphasized the association’s efforts to ensure that the families of fallen riders are adequately cared for, providing both material and emotional support.

Daniel Mumbi, a local rider, expressed his enthusiasm for participating in the event, which marked his first thanksgiving as a boda boda rider. He underscored the importance of such gatherings in fostering unity, offering prayers, and acknowledging the sacrifices made by riders.

As the riders gathered in prayer and thanksgiving, they reaffirmed their commitment to their profession and their dedication to supporting one another, both in times of joy and sorrow.
