Marking one year since the launch of E-Citizen, an application providing government services to Kenyans, President William Ruto has issued a stern warning to the heads of government agencies that have refused to adopt the platform.
Speaking at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), the President publicly listed 35 government agencies that have yet to comply with his directive. “These agencies have not adhered to my orders requiring all services, payments, and revenue collection to be conducted through the E-Citizen platform, enabling the Treasury to track government revenues,” stated the President. He issued a one-week ultimatum for compliance, warning that heads of agencies failing to meet the deadline would have to resign.
Addressing agencies that initially transitioned to the platform but later stopped using it, the President ordered the submission of transaction records from the past three months. The President noted that the agencies have been using alternative means of payment that cannot be accounted reiterating that the government will not continue to tolerate individuals who undermine the transparency of public resources. “I want that list on my desk in the next three days.” He directed.
The President emphasized that his government would not allow public money to be collected in dark corners, highlighting the importance of maintaining transparency in public funds and adding that there would be no escape route for individuals who continue to play games in collecting public money.
