Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa Awarded Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) by President Ruto

Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has been conferred the prestigious Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS) by President William Ruto during this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations. The award is among the highest honors in Kenya, recognizing individuals for outstanding service and contributions to the nation.

Senator Thang’wa, a prominent ally of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, took to his X account to express his gratitude and perspective on receiving the award. He emphasized the significance of the award, describing it as a symbol of service to the nation that transcends political affiliations.

“The Chief of the Burning Spear award is one of the highest honors recognizing outstanding service and contributions to Kenya. It transcends individual politics and focuses on the collective good of the nation,” the senator wrote.

He acknowledged his differences with the current administration’s policies but clarified that accepting the award reflects his commitment to the values the recognition upholds. “While I may not align with the current government’s policies or leadership, my acceptance of the award would be to honor the values it represents and the people it seeks to uplift. It is a recognition of service to Kenya, not a statement of political allegiance,” he added.

The Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear is one of Kenya’s highest civilian honors, awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service and dedication to the nation.

President Ruto, in his address during the ceremony, underscored the importance of acknowledging the efforts of those who work tirelessly for the betterment of the country. “Today, we honor those who have gone above and beyond in their service to Kenya. Their dedication and hard work are the pillars upon which our nation stands,” he stated.

Senator Thang’wa’s award comes amid recent events involving the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). The Senator, along with other allies of Rigathi Gachagua, has been vocal about what they perceive as intimidation tactics by the state.

Recently, Senator Thang’wa was summoned by the DCI in connection with an incident at a funeral in Limuru, where former Deputy President Gachagua was allegedly targeted. Despite these challenges, Senator Thang’wa has maintained his stance and continues to advocate for justice and transparency.

Congratulations to Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa on this well-deserved honor.
