Hundreds of young people from Kiambu Town Constituency have graduated after successfully completing various technical short courses aimed at equipping them with practical and marketable skills.
The graduation ceremony, held at Ndumberi Sports Ground, brought together graduates, local leaders, trainers and residents in an event that highlighted growing efforts to empower youth through vocational and skills-based training programmes.
The graduates completed training in a wide range of fields including plumbing, catering, paramedics, beauty therapy, barbering, graphic design, as well as foreign languages such as Chinese and Korean.
Speaking during the event, Kiambu Town MP Hon. Machua Waithaka said the programme was part of broader efforts to empower young people and create opportunities for self-employment and economic growth within the constituency.
The legislator noted that many youths continue facing challenges in accessing formal employment, making technical training and vocational skills an important pathway towards financial independence and innovation.
Machua praised the graduates for their commitment and determination throughout the training period, encouraging them to use the acquired skills to transform their lives and support their families.
He further reaffirmed his commitment to supporting programmes that equip youths with practical knowledge capable of opening doors to both local and international opportunities.
The MP also acknowledged the contribution of the International Youth Fellowship, which partnered in the programme to facilitate training and mentorship for the beneficiaries.
According to organisers, the initiative was designed to bridge the gap between education and employment by focusing on practical skills that are highly needed in the current job market.
Residents and parents who attended the ceremony welcomed the initiative, saying the programme had given many young people hope at a time when unemployment remains a major challenge among the youth.
Some graduates expressed optimism that the training would help them start businesses, seek employment opportunities or advance their studies in specialised fields.
The inclusion of foreign language training was also viewed as a major opportunity for youths seeking international exposure, scholarships and employment opportunities abroad.
Leaders present during the event called for more investment in vocational education and youth empowerment programmes, saying practical skills training remains key in addressing unemployment and improving livelihoods.
The programme adds to ongoing initiatives within Kiambu Town aimed at empowering young people through education, mentorship and economic empowerment projects.
With the latest graduation, hundreds of youths are now expected to enter the job market with practical skills that could positively impact both their lives and the local economy.
