President Ruto’s honeymoon with Mt Kenya appears to be over. Discontent simmered as prominent leaders like Governors Waititu, Kabogo, and Kahiga voiced frustrations over perceived neglect in development projects. They urged the President to deliver on campaign promises, warning of potential backlash if concerns remain unaddressed.
Waititu and Kabogo, shedding their UDA affiliation, vowed to hold the government accountable and champion Mt Kenya’s interests. Kahiga hinted at a possible fallout if the region continues to be marginalized. CS Moses Kuria, representing the government, tried to assuage tensions by pledging commitment to all Kenyans, but his pleas for patience seemed to fall on deaf ears.
Political analyst Kasembeli issued a stark warning, stating that Ruto risks losing crucial Mt Kenya support if he doesn’t address their concerns. He advised Ruto to consolidate support and listen to the region’s voice ahead of the 2027 elections.
