A devastating fire in Kabete, Kiambu County, tragically claimed the lives of four family members, including three children and their mother, in a heart-wrenching incident that has left the community reeling.
The grim episode unfolded in Kabocha village, with Anthony Mbogo, the area police boss, confirming the distressing news. According to Mbogo, the fire’s origin remains shrouded in mystery as investigations into its cause are ongoing.
The victims’ remains were discovered after the fire had been contained, marking a solemn conclusion to the early morning blaze that engulfed their home while they slept. The incident commenced at 2:00 am on Saturday, December 30, reducing the house to ashes and tragically claiming the lives of the family members within.
Eddy Kinyanjui, the Area Member of County Assembly (MCA), expressed the tragic reality that the victims were unable to flee the engulfing flames as the intensity of the fire thwarted any escape attempts. The destructive blaze not only claimed lives but also ravaged property of unspecified value, rendering efforts to salvage it futile.
Authorities, led by Mbogo, have launched a thorough investigation into the incident, aiming to uncover the cause of the fire that led to this devastating loss of life. This grim incident is the second within a fortnight in Kabete, following another fire that claimed two young lives in Karungu-bii village.
In the prior incident, two children from the same family perished in an inferno that razed 12 houses in Kabete Constituency. The children had been left unattended as their mother went to work to sustain the family, tragically succumbing to the fire’s fury. Although two children were rescued from the flames, the cause of the inferno remains undetermined, with initial investigations pointing to a potential electrical fault.
The consecutive tragedies have cast a somber atmosphere over Kabete, underscoring the urgency for heightened fire safety awareness and preventive measures within the community. As investigations continue into both incidents, authorities emphasize the importance of vigilance and adherence to fire safety protocols to avert such heartrending occurrences in the future.
