The National Police Service (NPS) has declared Samuel Ndirangu Muchoki, known as Samidoh, a deserter and ordered his immediate arrest. Authorities took action after he failed to return to duty when his official leave expired on May 27, 2025.
Samidoh serves in the Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU). He was expected to resume work but remained absent for over ten days without permission or explanation. Police have been trying to locate him, but they have not succeeded.
The National Police Service Act, Chapter 84 (Revised 2014), defines desertion as a criminal offense. Section 94 (1) states that any officer who stays absent for more than ten days without leave or a valid reason is a deserter. Section 94 (3) adds that desertion results in summary dismissal or up to two years in prison.
Meanwhile, his absence has sparked controversy, especially after his recent performances. During a live show on May 16, he shouted the opposition rallying call “Wantam,” stirring online debate. Days later, he performed with other Kikuyu artists at Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s home, where he appeared to support the two-term presidential limit.
Previously, Samidoh worked at the Central Region Police Headquarters before authorities transferred him to ASTU in Gilgil. Police have not explained the reason for the transfer. However, Inspector General Douglas Kanja stressed that officers must follow standard procedures, including transfers.
In response to his desertion, police in Gatumbiro, Nyandarua County, where Samidoh comes from, have received orders to arrest him on sight. Additionally, NPS has halted his salary until further notice.
