Residents of Limuru Town, Kiambu County, were left in shock after a 50-year-old man collapsed and died inside his toilet shortly after returning home on Friday night.
The deceased, identified as Paul Kimani Karanja, had reportedly just come back from Kitui, where he told his wife he had gone to seek spiritual intervention over struggles in his butchery business.
Witnesses say Karanja excused himself to the toilet, but moments later, he collapsed and died. His body was discovered hours later. Police officers called to the scene moved it to the mortuary for a postmortem.
Authorities say they are yet to establish the cause of death but confirmed that part of their investigation will include visiting the church he had attended in Kitui. Detectives are keen to determine whether there could be any links to occult practices.
Elsewhere, in Tana River County’s Kipini area, police recovered the decomposed body of a man identified as Joseph Raphael Kazungu at Ozi Beach along the Indian Ocean. A black tag was tied around his neck, and police suspect he drowned after a fishing boat capsized. Another fisherman remains missing as the search continues.
In a separate case in Mikuini, Machakos County, police are investigating the death of Musembi Mutinda, 32, whose body was found lying in a pool of blood near a bar. Mutinda was last seen leaving the bar before he was fatally attacked. Police say the motive of the killing is still unclear. His body has since been moved to the mortuary pending a postmortem.
