Man Found Dead in Ting’ang’a Police Cell Hours After Arrest

A man was found dead in a cell at Ting’ang’a Police Station in Kiambu County shortly after being booked for a domestic altercation earlier that morning. The cause of death is under investigation.

Following the discovery, residents gathered outside the police station, expressing skepticism about the official explanation of suicide and questioning the actions of the officers involved. They raised concerns about the possibility of foul play due to the timing of the death and the physical limitations of the cell.

Kiambu Sub-County Police Commander Mohammed Badel confirmed the incident and stated that the man was found hanging near the cell door with his own clothing. He further explained that the man had been arrested after a domestic dispute with his wife.

Residents, however, expressed doubts about this account, claiming to have witnessed the man arguing with his wife before his arrest and alleging that he might have been injured during the arrest process. They demanded a thorough investigation and expressed their desire for additional independent oversight.

The man’s body was transported to Kiambu mortuary, and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. Commander Badel has invited other agencies to participate in the investigation to ensure transparency and clarity.
