A fire that erupted at a Jua Kali garage yard in Kiambu Town has sparked an investigation by local law enforcement. Witnesses and police report that the blaze consumed at least eight cars.
Kiambu county fire engines managed to contain the fire, but not before it caused extensive damage to property estimated to be worth millions of shillings.
Initial findings suggest that the fire originated from the garage stores and was fueled by a gas cylinder explosion, igniting various garage materials and machinery.
Among the vehicles extensively damaged are a Toyota NZE, five Nissan Matatus, a Toyota 71, and a Toyota Prado containing a new engine intended for installation in another vehicle.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, though owners faced significant losses.
Kenya Power and Lighting experts have joined the investigation, according to Kiambu police boss Michael Muchiri.
Affected vehicle owners are urged to pursue compensation as the investigation unfolds.
The owners, particularly those of the matatus, lamented the impact of the fire on their operations, emphasizing the need for swift resolution.
