In a major development for Kenya’s anti-corruption efforts, the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has secured a High Court order freezing the assets of former Thika Land Registrar Felix Mecha Nyakundi.
The High Court granted EACC powers to freeze 17 high-end vehicles and 106 prime properties linked to Nyakundi, alongside retaining an additional sum of Ksh. 4.2 million seized during a search at his premises.
The EACC argued in court that Nyakundi’s wealth far exceeds his legitimate income and requested the assets be frozen to prevent their transfer or sale. Justice Esther Maina granted the freeze for six months to allow the EACC to complete its investigation into allegations of embezzlement of public funds, abuse of office, and unexplained wealth.
The targeted properties are spread across various locations, including Nairobi, Utawala, Ngong, Kilifi, Kitutu Central constituency, Kitutu West, Mavueni, Kisumu, Kitale, among others. EACC emphasized the urgency of freezing these assets for six months to facilitate thorough investigations into allegations of embezzlement of public funds, abuse of office, and unexplained wealth.
As investigations into Nyakundi’s case continue, EACC remains steadfast in its pursuit of justice, determined to uphold the rule of law and safeguard public resources for the benefit of all Kenyans.
