The Kenya Meteorological Department has issued a five-day forecast warning of rains, thunderstorms and strong winds in different parts of the country. The advisory covers the period from Friday, September 26 to Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
According to the department, the eastern highlands including Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyeri, Murang’a and Meru will experience cloudy mornings before breaking into sunny intervals, with light afternoon showers expected. Daytime temperatures could rise to 29°C, while nighttime lows may dip to as little as 5°C.
In Kericho, Bungoma, Nakuru, Kakamega, Kisumu and Bomet, residents should brace for morning showers followed by afternoon thunderstorms. Temperatures in these counties are projected to peak at 32°C during the day and fall to around 8°C at night.
Turkana and Samburu will see morning showers and sunny afternoons, with hot daytime highs of up to 36°C and nighttime lows of 7°C to 8°C.
Northern counties including Marsabit, Mandera, Garissa and Wajir are expected to remain dry and hot, with daytime temperatures averaging 37°C and night temperatures between 14°C and 16°C.
In the South Eastern lowlands covering Machakos, Kajiado, Makueni, Kitui and Taita Taveta residents should expect warm daytime conditions of 30°C to 32°C and partly cloudy nights.
At the coast, including Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu and parts of Tana River, days will remain sunny with partly cloudy nights and occasional light showers. Daytime highs are expected to range between 30°C and 32°C, with night temperatures averaging 21°C to 23°C.
The Met Department has also cautioned that strong winds of up to 46 km/h may affect the coastal region, south-eastern lowlands, as well as parts of north-eastern and north-western Kenya.
Residents have been urged to stay alert and take precautionary measures to avoid risks associated with sudden weather changes.
