Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara blames government for political intimidation after police, auctioneers seize car and livestock in raid

Auctioneers, escorted by armed police officers, on Thursday raided the home of Naivasha Member of Parliament Jayne Kihara, seizing one of her personal vehicles along with several goats and sheep.

The operation, which Kihara described as politically motivated, is said to be linked to an ongoing election petition pitting her against a former Naivasha MP.

Speaking to journalists, Kihara claimed the raid was meant to intimidate her for supporting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“The OCS called me saying he was under pressure to implement an order by the auctioneers. I told him I should be present when it was carried out,” she said, questioning how the order was executed despite a pending appeal case.

Kihara further alleged that the animals taken during the raid belonged to her son. “I don’t rear livestock myself, and some of the hired youths made away with part of the herd,” she said.

The incident comes just weeks after police stormed her home during a separate meeting, where she was arrested and later released on a Ksh50,000 bond.

Earlier in the day, Kihara had joined Naivasha residents protesting against an ongoing multi-billion-shilling project on Kenya Railways land, which she claimed was being developed without transparency.

“The President must tell Kenyans who is behind the project on Kenya Railways land in Naivasha. People were evicted from this land three years ago and lost property worth millions,” she stated.

The MP, a vocal critic of the government, maintains that her troubles stem from her stand on land issues and her political alignment within the Mount Kenya region.
