The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has successfully auctioned the first batch of properties recovered from former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and former Nairobi County Head of Accounting Stephen Ogaga Osiro, netting Ksh 69.7 million.
The Thursday auction marked the first phase of a court-sanctioned recovery process involving ten properties seized from the two in connection with graft cases filed under Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Suit No. 20 of 2018 and Suit No. 10 of 2021.
According to EACC, the assets sold included a three-bedroom apartment at Riara Apartments in Nairobi, which fetched Ksh 14 million, and a townhouse at Loresho Ridge Estate that went for Ksh 31 million. Other properties auctioned were located in Greenspan Estate, Nairobi, with sale prices ranging between Ksh 6.7 million and Ksh 11 million.
The Commission noted that the total proceeds from the sale exceeded the reserve prices, with all funds set to be deposited into the Consolidated Fund as stipulated by Section 56C of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
EACC Head of Corporate Communications, Stephen Karuga, said the recovery effort underscored the agency’s unwavering resolve to ensure those involved in corruption do not benefit from their ill-gotten wealth.
“EACC remains committed to tracing and recovering proceeds of corruption and unexplained wealth, ensuring that economic crime perpetrators do not profit from stolen public resources,” said Karuga.
He added that the remaining properties, located in Kisumu and Migori Counties, are set to be auctioned on October 16, 2025, and invited members of the public to participate in the upcoming exercise.
The high-profile asset disposal marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s ongoing war against corruption and the recovery of public resources siphoned through fraudulent schemes.
