KDF reaffirms integrity and merit in nationwide recruitment as Homa Bay exercise records high youth turnout

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent and fair recruitment process as the ongoing nationwide exercise enters its second week.

Speaking in Homa Bay on Monday, Lieutenant Colonel Austin Kirwa, who oversaw the local recruitment drive, said the turnout from young people was impressive and the exercise was proceeding smoothly.

“The recruitment has been orderly, and candidates have shown great enthusiasm. We are pleased with how it has gone so far,” he said.

Lt. Col. Kirwa noted that the current recruitment targets candidates with technical and specialized skills, who must undergo rigorous aptitude and competence tests to determine suitability.

He stressed that the process remains corruption-free, warning applicants not to fall for fraudsters claiming to influence outcomes.

“KDF does not solicit or accept bribes. Let no one deceive you that they can help you join the military. The process is transparent, verifiable, and based purely on merit,” he said.

Kirwa added that each candidate is subjected to a thorough verification process, including document checks, physical and medical screening, and aptitude assessments.

Applicants must meet the set qualifications, including age, height, and weight limits with men required to be at least 1.60 metres tall and women 1.52 metres, alongside minimum weights of 54.5 kilograms and 50 kilograms respectively.

Successful candidates will proceed to the Recruits Training School in Eldoret or the Kenya Military Academy in Lanet for further assessment and training.

“So far, the candidates have undergone all the required parameters, and we are almost concluding the final examinations before wrapping up the process,” he said.

Lt. Col. Kirwa urged the public to support the exercise, assuring that KDF remains steadfast in ensuring only qualified, disciplined, and deserving Kenyans earn the honor of serving their country.
