TSC reschedules teachers’ promotion interviews to October 21–23 after Raila Odinga’s death and public holiday

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced new dates for the promotional interviews that were set to take place on Friday, October 17, 2025.

The Commission said the rescheduling follows the government’s declaration of a public holiday to honour the late former Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga, who passed away on October 15.

In a statement issued on Thursday, October 16, TSC confirmed that the affected interviews will now be conducted from Tuesday, October 21, to Thursday, October 23, 2025, across all regions.

“Following the Government’s declaration of Friday, 17 October 2025, as a Public Holiday in honour of the late Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga, the Teachers Service Commission has suspended all promotional interviews previously scheduled for that date,” read part of the statement.

TSC added that teachers affected by the changes will receive detailed communication from their respective Regional Directors regarding new dates and logistical arrangements.

“In light of this, please note the affected interviews will be rescheduled across the three working days commencing Tuesday, 21 October through Thursday, 23 October 2025. Your respective Regional Director will communicate the revised schedule and logistical details in due course,” the Commission added.

Meanwhile, the Hindu Council of Kenya has also urged its members to tone down Diwali celebrations this year in respect of Raila’s passing, advising that festivities be conducted in a more subdued and reflective manner.

“It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of the former Prime Minister of Kenya, Rt. Hon. Raila Amollo Odinga. His impactful leadership and dedication to the nation have left an enduring legacy that commands our deepest respect and reflection,” read a statement from the council.

The council also appealed to devotees to refrain from using fireworks and crackers during the mourning period, urging all Kenyans to observe the national loss with dignity and sensitivity.
