Over 440,000 vulnerable households across Kenya are set to receive government cash transfers following the release of Ksh880 million under the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children (CT-OVC) Program.
The funds, disbursed through the State Department for Children Services, will be paid out starting Friday, October 24, with each household receiving Ksh2,000 for the September 2025 cycle.
Principal Secretary for Children Services, Carren Ageng’o, said the program implemented under the Inua Jamii social protection initiative seeks to uplift vulnerable families and promote children’s welfare within family and community settings.
“The CT-OVC Program aims to encourage fostering and retention of orphans and vulnerable children within their families and communities, while promoting their human capital development,” Ageng’o stated.
She noted that the initiative has improved access to education, healthcare, nutrition, and child protection, while strengthening household resilience in low-income communities.
According to the ministry, Ksh880,040,000 will benefit 440,020 households nationwide, with funds distributed transparently to ensure only deserving families receive the support.
Ageng’o added that the initiative remains a key pillar in the government’s broader effort to reduce poverty and inequality through direct social protection measures.
“Specifically, the program supports increased school enrolment and transition, improved health and nutrition outcomes, enhanced food security, and better child protection,” she said.
The Inua Jamii initiative, launched to safeguard Kenya’s most vulnerable citizens, continues to provide a critical safety net by promoting dignity, equality, and empowerment across communities.
