Detectives have launched investigations after police officers at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) intercepted 2.5 kilograms of Methamphetamine valued at Ksh20 million, believed to have been en route to Seychelles.
According to police reports, the narcotics were seized on Friday at a cargo station within the airport after being sent by an unknown individual. Acting on intelligence, officers discovered the drugs hidden in three African mosaic bags, each concealing two black-wrapped packages containing a clear crystal substance. Tests later confirmed it was Methamphetamine.
No arrests have been made so far, but detectives say they are pursuing the sender and possible accomplices. Authorities suspect the shipment could be part of a larger network using Kenyan ports and airports as drug transit points.
JKIA officials have since intensified surveillance measures to prevent the use of the airport as a trafficking gateway.
The seizure comes just weeks after a separate multi-agency operation intercepted narcotics worth Ksh8.2 billion in the Indian Ocean, leading to the arrest of six Iranian nationals currently detained at Kilindini Port.
Security agencies say the ongoing investigations are part of a wider regional crackdown on transnational drug syndicates operating across East Africa.
