Kiambaa Community Health Promoters graduate after maternal and newborn care training to boost safe deliveries and save lives

Community Health Promoters (CHPs) from Kiambaa Sub-county have completed an intensive Maternal and Newborn Care training aimed at improving health outcomes for mothers and infants at the community level.

The program, conducted through a partnership between the County Government of Kiambu and AIC Kijabe Hospital, equipped CHPs with essential skills in safe pregnancy care, delivery preparedness, emergency referrals, and postnatal follow-ups.

Speaking during the graduation ceremony, Kiambu County Director of Public Health and Sanitation Teresiah Njoroge lauded the graduates for their dedication, describing them as the critical link between communities and health facilities.

“You are the bridge between our hospitals and households. The knowledge you’ve gained today will save lives and promote safe motherhood,” said Njoroge.

She reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to strengthening community-based health systems as part of its broader goal to achieve universal health coverage.

Officials from AIC Kijabe Hospital praised the collaboration as a milestone in advancing maternal and newborn health across the county, emphasizing that such partnerships ensure sustainable, people-centered healthcare delivery.

The trained CHPs are now expected to spearhead maternal health initiatives in their villages—encouraging antenatal visits, promoting hospital deliveries, and supporting new mothers during the postnatal period.

Their graduation marks a vital step toward reducing preventable maternal and infant deaths and improving access to quality healthcare services in Kiambaa Sub-county.
