Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has taken a swipe at his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of fueling politics of hate, ethnicity, and division during the ongoing Mbeere North Constituency by-election campaigns.
Speaking during a series of stops in support of UDA candidate Leomard Muthende, Prof Kindiki dismissed Gachagua as a leader lacking credibility and impact, arguing that he had little to show for his time as Deputy President.
“He is here pretending to be the Mt Kenya kingpin, yet he delivered nothing for the people of Mbeere North during his tenure,” Kindiki said, urging residents to choose stability and development over what he termed as chaos and disrespect being pushed by the opposition.
Kindiki told residents that Muthende was the best choice to ensure continuity of development projects initiated by former MP Geoffrey Ruku, who now serves as a Cabinet Secretary. He exuded confidence that UDA would secure a landslide win, saying the outcome would silence the opposition’s political bravado.
On the campaign trail for the rival side, Gachagua who is backing United Opposition candidate Newton Karish accused the government of misleading residents with promises of projects that never materialized after the 2022 elections. He argued that electing a pro-government MP would not automatically translate to development.
Gachagua defended Karish as a seasoned leader who served three consecutive terms as Muminji Ward MCA, saying he understands the constituency’s challenges and is better placed to lobby for change.
The Mbeere North by-election, set for November 27, continues to draw intense political rivalry as both sides escalate their campaigns in a battle for control of the constituency.
