NTSA Bans Several Matatu Saccos Operating in Kiambu County

In a move aimed at enhancing safety standards and compliance in the public transport sector, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced the banning of 64 matatu Saccos from operating as public service vehicles. Among those banned are several Saccos operating in Kiambu County.

The NTSA urges the public to avoid boarding any vehicles belonging to these companies. Unlicensed transportation poses significant risks, and the National Police Service (NPS) has been instructed to impound any vehicles found operating under the revoked licenses.

The NTSA has emphasized that any Sacco seeking to resume operations will face thorough re-evaluation process. They must demonstrate complete compliance with all safety norms and regulations before regaining their licenses.

Among the banned Saccos operating in Kiambu County are:

  1. New Rukawest Company Ltd – operating on routes including Githura-Bypass, KU Referral Hospital, Ruiru, Thika, Gatuanyanga.
  2. Kiambu United Travellers Sacco Ltd – serving routes such as Riabai, Kirigiti, Kiambu, Thindigua.
  3. Tigagi Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Ltd – operating on routes in Kiambu, Ikunu, Githunguri.
  4. Runka Services Cooperatives Savings and Credit Society Ltd – serving routes like Odeon, Highridge, Pangani, Bypass, Githogoro, Ruaka, Limuru Rd, Ndenderu, Karura, Wangige.
  5. Safeline Matatu Sacco Ltd – serving routes such as Railways, Dagoreti, Kikuyu.
  6. Chania Transport Company Ltd – operating on routes such as Mombasa-Voi-Mtito Andei, Nairobi, Thika, Embu, Meru, Maua.
  7. Muna Supreme Shuttle – operating on routes covering Nairobi, Thika, Muranga, Kangema, Kiriaini, Nyeri, Nakuru, Gilgil, Nyahururu, Naivasha.
  8. Muranga Supreme Shuttle Ltd – serving routes including Nairobi, Kangema, Thika, Muranga.
  9. Chakana Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Ltd – serving routes like Nyahururu-Nyeri-Nanyuki, Thika, Nyeri-Chaka-Nanyuki.
