DCP rides momentum as Gachagua celebrates sweeping ward by-election wins across key battlegrounds

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is celebrating what he has termed a defining moment for his fast-rising Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) after it swept three ward by-elections held on Thursday. The seven-month-old party captured Narok Township, Kariobangi North and Kisa East wards, a performance Gachagua described as a clear signal that voters are embracing new political options.

In a statement shared on his X page, Gachagua congratulated Douglas Masikonde, David Warui and Dickson Okwiri Aduda for emerging victorious. The IEBC declared Masikonde winner of the Narok Township Ward seat after garnering 5,997 votes against UDA’s Robert Kanyinke Ole Kudate, who received 4,479.

Gachagua praised residents for what he termed courage under pressure, alleging they defied intimidation, hired goons and police interference to exercise their democratic right. He accused state actors of attempting to disrupt the vote, including the destruction of election materials, claims that were echoed by reports of clashes and arson in Narok and parts of Embu.

In Mbeere North, tension escalated after rival groups fought outside Siakago Social Hall tallying centre, while a vehicle belonging to DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa was torched. Police restored order as tallying continued under heavy security.

Despite the unrest, the former DP urged DCP aspirants to stay engaged with grassroots communities, saying the triple win proves the party’s growing acceptance. He noted that the results give DCP fresh momentum as it prepares for the 2027 General Election.

Gachagua maintained that the party’s strategy will remain people-driven, grounded in direct engagement and listening to local priorities. “The future looks great,” he said, projecting confidence that DCP is now positioning itself as a credible challenger to established political formations.
