Nyeri County has held its second Male-Only Wellness Inreach at Nyeri Town Health Centre, empowering men to prioritise their health through accessible, community-centred services. The initiative was spearheaded by the Nyeri Central Sub-County Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) in collaboration with Amref Health Africa’s Project THRIVE, supported by Equity Afya Medical Centre and City Eye Hospital.
During the session, men received comprehensive health services including screening for non-communicable diseases such as hypertension and diabetes, cancer awareness and individual risk assessments, mental health support, and personalised medical consultations. The initiative also offered counselling to encourage early detection and proactive healthcare practices.
The event drew a strong turnout, reflecting growing interest among men in taking charge of their wellbeing. Amref Health Africa’s Board of Directors, on an annual site visit across Nyeri County, attended the session and commended the county government for promoting targeted healthcare interventions.
Nyeri County officials said the inreach demonstrates the value of intentional, men-focused health programmes in building resilient communities. “Men are increasingly willing to engage in health services when they are tailored to their needs. These inreach sessions are critical for early diagnosis, prevention, and overall community health,” a county health official said.
The programme aligns with Nyeri County’s broader strategy to strengthen primary healthcare and community wellness, ensuring men receive the support and education needed to live healthier, empowered lives.
