CS Murkomen vows nationwide crackdown on political goons following rising violence across Kenya’s recent by-elections

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has vowed a nationwide crackdown on political goons following a wave of violence during recent by-elections.

Speaking on Monday, December 1, 2025, Murkomen condemned assaults on political leaders, including incidents in Malava, Kasipul, Trans Nzoia, and Kariobangi North, where MPs, governors, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua were attacked or teargassed.

Murkomen attributed the rise in goon mobilization to political leaders allegedly hiring armed youth to disrupt public events, saying, “There is a phenomenon that has grown in the country, especially perpetuated by political leaders, where people mobilize goons who carry machetes and rungus.”

He warned that chiefs and assistant chiefs increasingly struggle to maintain security at public gatherings and funerals due to the growing insecurity. Murkomen confirmed coordinated action with Inspector General Douglas Kanja to eliminate goons nationwide, emphasizing that the crackdown will be enforced across all regions without exception.
