Boyfriend of Deceased MKU Student Detained for 14 Days

A 25-year-old student, David Kioko, from Tom Mboya University, has been detained for 14 days as the prime suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, 19-year-old Faith Musembi, a student at Mount Kenya University (MKU).

Musembi, who was eight months pregnant, was found lifeless in her rented apartment in Pilot Estate, Thika, last week. An autopsy revealed she died from excessive bleeding caused by a detached placenta.

Police suspect infidelity as a possible motive. Kioko and Musembi, who hailed from the same village in Machakos County, had been in a relationship for six years.

Reports indicate Kioko’s jealousy of Musembi’s male friends may have played a role. Before his arrest, Kioko allegedly demanded ransom from Musembi’s family and threatened to harm her and their unborn child.

During the court hearing, police requested a 21-day detention but were granted 14 days for further investigation. This includes:

  • Additional Autopsy: Confirming the pregnancy and conducting a DNA test.
  • Mental Evaluation: Assessing Kioko’s mental state.
  • Witness Statements: Gathering information from relevant individuals.
  • Mobile Phone Analysis: Forensically examining Musembi’s missing phone, believed to be in Kioko’s possession.

The investigation team aims to compile a comprehensive report for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Faith’s family are understandably devastated and demand justice for her brutal murder. The communities in Machakos, Thika, and beyond are also calling for swift justice.
