The National Assembly is in mourning following the sudden death of Nominated MP Denar Joseph Hamisi on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at approximately 7:00 am. Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed the news, describing Hamisi’s passing as a “great loss to the House and the nation at large.”

A dedicated public servant, Hamisi was nominated to Parliament after the 2022 General Elections under the Amani National Congress (ANC) party. He served on the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture and the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities, earning respect for his diligence and commitment to promoting national unity.

Born in 1969 in Kinango, Hamisi pursued education at Mombasa Baptist High School before earning a BSc in Tourism Management and a Master’s in International Business Administration from the United States International University. He later obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi.

Before his parliamentary role, Hamisi built a distinguished career in both public and private sectors, including leadership positions at the Coast Development Authority, Kenya Airports Authority, Kenya National Accreditation Services, and as Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya. He also served on the councils of the University of Nairobi and Moi University.

Speaker Wetang’ula announced the formation of a team, led by Deputy Majority Leader Owen Baya, to coordinate funeral arrangements and liaise with the family. Details of the send-off will be shared in due course.

Hamisi is remembered by colleagues and peers as principled, humble, and deeply committed to public service.
