Environmental activist Truphena Muthoni reveals government snub before 72-hour tree-hugging feat, pledges to support girls facing similar struggles

Environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has revealed how the government failed to support her before her record-breaking 72-hour tree-hugging challenge in Kenya. Speaking during an interview, Muthoni explained that her requests for assistance, including accreditation to the recent COP 30 in Brazil, were ignored by the Ministry of Environment.

“The record I achieved in Kenya was supposed to happen in Brazil, but I didn’t get the support I requested,” Muthoni said.

She added that her difficult personal journey fuels her mission to empower girls and young people facing similar hardships. During a TikTok livestream on December 11, Muthoni pledged to use her rising social media influence to mentor and support others. The overwhelming response from viewers, including M-Pesa contributions, temporarily jammed her account as she worked to channel funds toward her initiatives.

Muthoni’s message underscores resilience and determination, highlighting the role of grassroots activism in environmental awareness and youth empowerment.
