Construction crews have begun work on the Kiambu County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) at Waruhiu Farm in Githunguri. This marks a significant milestone for the project, as the site has been cleared and leveled, and excavation is underway.

The park is designed to be a hub for agricultural processing and manufacturing, connecting farmers, industries, and markets. This aligns with Kenya’s Vision 2030 goals of transforming the nation into an industrialized middle-income country.

A collaborative effort between the State Department for Industry and the Council of Governors (COG), CAIP is funded by both the National Government (Sh1.12 billion) and Kiambu County (Sh250 million) in this financial year.

Kiambu County’s CECM for Trade, Industrialization, Tourism, and Investments, Mburu Kangethe, highlights the project’s benefits. The strategic location will aid farmers with collection, storage, sorting, and even initial processing of their produce.

This initiative is expected to create jobs for young people, boost exports, and strengthen Kiambu’s economy. Additionally, farmers will have opportunities to learn from experts about various agricultural practices.

CAIP aims to revitalize the stagnant manufacturing sector (currently at 11% of GDP) by promoting agro-industries and increasing agricultural productivity.

It will provide a platform for collaboration between farmers, processors, exporters, research institutions, and government bodies.

This development comes after the National Government released funds for 17 counties implementing CAIP projects in the first phase. Kiambu County is among these alongside Migori, Mombasa, Busia, Meru, and others.
