Kenyan activist Mwabili Mwagodi has claimed he was arrested at the Kenya–Tanzania border and is currently being held at Lunga Lunga Police Station after immigration officers allegedly flagged his passport over a red notice.
In a statement shared on his official X account on Monday, Mwagodi said he was stopped on Sunday, February 15, while travelling to Dar es Salaam.
According to the activist, immigration officials informed him that a red notice had been issued against his passport in early 2025 by an officer attached to the Serious Crimes Unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) based at Mazingira House along Kiambu Road.
Mwagodi claimed he was not informed of the offence he allegedly committed or the charges he could be facing.
He further stated that officers at the Lunga Lunga Border Police Post were awaiting instructions from the DCI on how to proceed with his case.
“The officers told me they are waiting for communication from Mazingira House on what I am being detained for and the next course of action,” he said.
By Monday morning, Mwagodi claimed he remained in custody as police awaited further direction.
Authorities had not issued an official statement on the matter by the time of publication.
The latest incident comes months after Mwagodi’s controversial disappearance in July 2025 while in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. He was later found in Kinondo, Kwale County, several days after he was reported missing.
