Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai has called for the removal of Nairobi Regional Police Commander George Seda, citing rising insecurity in the city center and surrounding estates.
Speaking on Wednesday, September 3, Alai argued that Nairobi requires a police chief with deeper knowledge of modern policing strategies to tackle organized crime.
“We need a new mindset in policing in Nairobi. County enforcement and the National Police must work together. A competent police boss with proper knowledge of the law should be the RPC Nairobi,” Alai stated.
The MCA accused Seda of failing to address the growing menace of violent gangs, despite his track record in quelling demonstrations. He described Seda as “incompetent when it comes to strategic policing in a cosmopolitan city.”
Seda took over as Nairobi Regional Police Commander in January 2025, replacing Adamson Bungei, who was redeployed as Director of Operations at Police Headquarters. Seda previously served as Coast and North Eastern Regional Police Commander.
His leadership now faces criticism as Nairobian’s report rising cases of broad daylight muggings, robberies, and attacks by organized gangs. Victims claim criminals are using weapons, human waste as threats, and even “Devil’s Breath,” a toxic plant compound that leaves victims disoriented and vulnerable.
City officials have also voiced concerns, with Geoffrey Mosiria, the Chief Officer for Environment, accusing some Gen Zs of posing as hustlers in the CBD before turning to crime.
The calls for Seda’s removal come at a time when Nairobi residents are demanding tougher policing measures to restore safety in the capital.
