Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has officially joined Kenya’s legal fraternity. On May 23, 2025, he was admitted to the bar alongside 608 other lawyers. However, his admission was not just a personal milestone it was a declaration of intent.
Owino, known for his fiery rhetoric, wasted no time in issuing a stern warning to the government. He vowed to use his legal expertise to challenge injustices and advocate for the common mwananchi. His journey to the bar, he explained, was deeply rooted in his upbringing. Growing up in Nyalenda, Kisumu, he witnessed police brutality firsthand. His mother, arrested multiple times for selling illicit brew, was often beaten instead of being taken to court. These experiences fueled his passion for justice.
Now armed with legal authority, Owino promised to intensify his fight for fairness. He declared that the government should brace itself for “more lethal arguments” in both Parliament and court. His focus, he emphasized, would be on lowering the cost of living, creating jobs, and holding systems accountable.
“This achievement is not about personal grandiosity. It is about sharpening the tools of service. The law is now a new battlefield where I will fight even harder for justice, equity, and the rights of the common mwananchi,” he said.
Owino’s admission to the bar marks a significant shift in his political strategy. Previously, he relied on legislative debates and public activism. Now, he has the legal tools to take his battles to the courtroom. His statement reflected this transition: “The revolution continues now with a gown and a gavel. So, help me, God”.
