The Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) has extended its crackdown on unlicensed parcel and courier services to Mombasa, where five people were arrested and arraigned in court.
The joint operation between CA officials and the National Police Service took place on Tuesday, August 26, at Mwembe Tayari and Bondeni bus stages.
According to CA, the swoop targeted Zahara Parcels and Courier, Maslah Parcel Services, Simba Parcel Services and Mombasa Raha Bus Company, all accused of operating without the mandatory licenses.
The suspects appeared before the Mombasa Law Courts on Thursday, where they were fined between Ksh10,000 and Ksh50,000 for violating the Kenya Information and Communications Act of 1998.
This latest crackdown mirrors a similar operation carried out last week in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area, which saw nine people arrested for the same offence.
In a statement, the authority reiterated its commitment to cleaning up the sector, urging unlicensed operators to seek compliance.
“Dealing with licensed parcel and courier operators safeguards consumers, ensures secure and reliable delivery, and supports lawful and sustainable growth of the sector,” CA said.
The regulator further reminded Kenyans to use only licensed courier companies, stressing that doing so not only guarantees safety and reliability but also strengthens legal business practices across the country.
