In adherence to the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) policy, the Catholic Church has rejected donations from President Ruto and Nairobi Governor Sakaja.
On Sunday, the 17th, President Ruto attended a Catholic service in Soweto, Nairobi, where he donated Ksh.600,000 for the church choir and parish missionary, while Nairobi Governor added Ksh.200,000 to the amount.
Additionally, the President donated Ksh.2 million for the construction of the Father’s house and pledged to contribute an extra Ksh.3 million along with a church bus.
Following this incident, the Catholic Church, in a statement read on Monday evening by Archbishop Philip Anyolo, announced that the funds would be returned to the donor per the KCCB policy and the Public Fundraising Appeals Bill 2024.
Additionally, Archbishop Anyolo stated that the church would remain steadfast in upholding its integrity, urging the church to safeguard itself from political purposes by rejecting funds that could compromise its independence.
He further called on leaders entrusted with the opportunity to serve by Kenyans to address the pressing issues highlighted on Thursday by the KCCB.
