Church urged to lead holistic social change as clergy challenged to move beyond comfort zones

The Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) has been urged to take a leading role in driving holistic societal transformation amid growing social and moral challenges.

Speaking during an ordination service at Nyahururu ACK Christ the King Cathedral, ACK Nakuru Diocese Bishop Antony Mambo said the Church must rise above comfort zones and actively influence positive change within communities.

Bishop Mambo described 2026 as a defining year for faith institutions, calling on clergy to abandon the status quo and boldly engage society beyond the church walls.

Drawing from Isaiah 54:2, the bishop encouraged ministers to expand their spiritual reach and embrace transformative service that responds to real-life struggles facing communities.

He urged clergy to serve as agents of healing and hope, especially for those grappling with uncertainty, social pressures and weakened moral values amplified by social media influence.

Nyahururu Diocese Bishop Samson Gachathi echoed the call, noting that ministry must address pressing societal issues, including challenges in the education sector, substance abuse and illicit brews.

Bishop Gachathi reaffirmed the Church’s commitment to moral leadership, justice and collaboration with government and community stakeholders to uplift society.
