Coast leaders rally behind president Ruto ahead of 2027 general election

Coast region leaders have publicly declared their unwavering support for President William Ruto as the country draws closer to the 2027 General Election. This political alignment took shape during the burial of Mzee Gideon Baya Mung’aro, father of Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro in Dabaso, Kilifi County.

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi led the chorus of endorsements, praising President Ruto’s development initiatives and transformative leadership. “Vitu ambavyo vinaguza mioyo wa wananchi wa kawaida. Certainly, adui atatetemka, hence, this war. Rais, keep it there, usiyumbe,” Kingi said. He called on fellow leaders from the region to remain loyal and focused on tangible progress rather than divisive politics.

Additionally, Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs Salim Mvurya cautioned against political figures using young people for selfish interests. “The youth of this country should not be duped into violence because the politicians who are inciting them have already arrived at their destination,” he warned.

Cabinet Secretary Hussein Twaib reinforced the message by declaring full support for the President. “Tunaunga mkono Rais Ruto kwa hali na mali… tutakuskuma sambamba,” he stated. His message reflected growing confidence among Coast leaders in Ruto’s administration.

Governor Mung’aro, who hosted the leaders, emphasized development over political confrontation. “Tunachotaka sisi ni maendeleo ya watu wetu,” he noted. According to him, the region has already started witnessing change under Ruto’s leadership, particularly in infrastructure, electricity access, and land reforms.

Kilifi North MP Owen Baya added political weight to the endorsements. He declared, “If there is a President who has been a friend of Kilifi people, it’s William Ruto  2027, sisi watu wa Kilifi tutabakia na yeye watu wakipiga kelele.”

Historically, the Coast has supported opposition politics, but this shift signals a potential realignment.

Moreover, the leaders emphasized that their support is not just political but also rooted in the developmental benefits already visible in the region. They cited improved infrastructure, rural electrification, and increased access to water as clear signs of the President’s commitment..
