Court Confirms Justin Muturi Resigned, Contradicting Ruto’s Claim of Dismissal

A recent court ruling has contradicted President William Ruto’s claim that former Attorney General Justin Muturi was dismissed due to incompetence. Official documents presented in court confirm that Muturi resigned voluntarily.

The revelation emerged during a High Court hearing where a group of citizens challenged the legality of Muturi’s alleged dismissal. The lawsuit argued that President Ruto misled the public and violated constitutional provisions. At the center of the case was an affidavit sworn by Principal Administrative Secretary Arthur Amug Osiya. It included a resignation letter signed by Muturi and addressed to President Ruto, dated July 11, 2024. The Office of the President received and stamped the letter on the same day.

This evidence directly contradicts Ruto’s earlier public statements. State Counsel Emmanuel Bitta, representing the government, emphasized that Muturi resigned voluntarily. “That is a resignation letter, signed by the Honourable Justin Muturi, dated July 11, 2024, addressed to His Excellency the President, and received on the same day. This confirms that Muturi stepped down willingly,” Bitta stated in court.

Further documentation from the Clerk of the National Assembly and official gazette notices confirmed that Muturi resigned, not dismissed. During his vetting for a new role as Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Muturi reiterated his decision. “I resigned, and there were reasons. There had been some disquiet, and the honorable thing to do was to step down. This allowed the President to reorganize his Cabinet as he desired,” Muturi explained.

Legal experts argue that misleading the public about such a significant decision undermines trust in leadership. Petitioners seek to have Ruto’s claim officially declared false.
