The High Court has frozen assets valued at Ksh229 million belonging to suspended Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Chief Executive Officer, Evanson Njoroge Kamuri, pending investigations into alleged abuse of office and irregular procurement.
Justice Lucy Njuguna issued the preservation orders after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) sought to secure the wealth ahead of a forfeiture case. The orders remain in force until October 11, 2025.
The frozen wealth includes Ksh130 million in properties in Kitengela and Ngong, treasury bonds worth Ksh55 million, and Ksh44.5 million held in six bank accounts.
EACC opened investigations after receiving reports of procurement breaches during Kamuri’s tenure. These involved the Ksh443.6 million tender for a medical oxygen plant awarded to Biomax Africa Ltd, and the installation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system.
According to EACC, Kamuri irregularly approved addendum contracts with Biomax Africa, leading to Ksh290 million being paid for a substandard oxygen plant that failed to meet tender specifications.
Investigators traced Ksh114.4 million through his bank accounts. Initially, the commission targeted assets worth Sh446 million, but accepted Kamuri’s explanation for Ksh237 million. The unexplained Ksh229 million is now subject to forfeiture proceedings.
