Court releases seven KDF officers on bond in Ksh192 million meth case

A Mombasa court has released seven Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officers charged with trafficking methamphetamine valued at Ksh192 million, granting each a bond of Ksh500,000.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) sought to extend the officers’ detention, citing incomplete investigations and a pending government chemist’s report expected by January 3.

However, defence lawyers objected, arguing that delays in forensic analysis could not justify continued detention. Senior Principal Magistrate Gladys Olimo agreed, ruling that courts should not be used as holding facilities while investigations remain incomplete.

The officers were arrested over alleged trafficking of 25 kilograms of methamphetamine. The ODPP maintained that its decision to charge was guided by law and available evidence.
