Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced a nationwide crackdown targeting rogue boda boda riders suspected of engaging in criminal activities, including robbery, harassment, and public intimidation.
Speaking on Friday, September 12, in Kisii County, Murkomen directed police officers to identify and arrest criminals exploiting motorcycles for unlawful purposes. He instructed law enforcement to collaborate closely with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to ensure all riders are licensed and compliant with traffic regulations.
“Some of these boda boda groups are being used to harass, beat, and torture people. I have already informed security teams that there will be a major crackdown,” Murkomen said.
He added that the operation will be carried out “without fear or favour, without ill will, and irrespective of political affiliations.”
Murkomen also praised responsible boda boda leaders who provide intelligence on criminal gangs, noting their role in enhancing public safety.
The directive underscores the government’s commitment to restoring order in the boda boda sector and protecting citizens from rising criminal activity linked to motorcycle taxis.
